New Delhi: BR Ambedkar University has revoked the suspension of the MA final year student accused of using derogatory language against the vice chancellor. The student has been allowed to attend classes under “strict disciplinary guidelines”.
“After thorough consideration of an appeal by the suspended student, the vice chancellor directed the proctorial board to show some leniency in this specific case. The board, after due deliberations, recommended allowing the student to continue her academic pursuit under strict disciplinary guidelines. This decision was made while keeping in mind the university’s integrity, academic environment, and the student’s future,” the university said in a statement on Friday.
It added that the university followed all established norms and procedures in the disciplinary action taken against the student.
TOI on March 23 reported the girl student was suspended on account of her criticism of vice chancellor Anu Singh Lather’s Republic Day speech, which included remarks on Ramjanambhoomi and Dalits. The student, in an email circulated among students, described Lather’s speech as “communal, casteist and ahistorical”.
