Amit Shah: India won’t sign UN convention on refugees | India News – The Times of India

NEW DELHI: Home minister Amit Shah on Thursday ruled out India signing the 1951 UN convention on refugees which requires the govt to take refugees and recognise their rights, saying India was not a “dharamshala” (rest house).
“India is not a dharamshala where anyone can come and settle for any reason. Parliament has the authority to stop those who pose a threat to national security,” Shah said while replying to the debate on the Immigration and Foreigners Bill, 2025, in Lok Sabha.
“It is very important for the security of our country to know who are entering our borders,” he said.
