Armed men open fire, try to set property dealer’s SUV ablaze in east Delhi – The Times of India

New Delhi: Armed assailants fired six rounds and attempted to burn an SUV of a property dealer in east Delhi’s Trilokpuri on Saturday.
Police have found a piece of paper in which the assailants had demanded Rs 30 lakh. Investigators are probing whether the money was related to gambling and if money lost there had led to the firing.
Police said the firings happened around 3.30pm on Saturday. A team from the local police station rushed to the scene and found the note, addressed to the property dealer, that said: “Either return my Rs 30 lakh or stop the betting business. Give me the amount I won or shut down the betting operations at your home. It’s not right that you’re getting your son to threaten me. I know your son is in contact with goons. I know everything. Either return my money that I won from betting or stop the betting business at your home that you’re running.”
A senior officer said the property dealer had parked his SUV a few metres from the house. “At least four to five people arrived on three bikes and attempted to burn the SUV by pouring petrol on it. They broke the vehicle’s windows. When people approached them, they fired four to five rounds in the air and fled,” a police source said. The officer said the cops were investigating all angles, including gambling money.
Mohammad Zaid, who was sitting in his shop, said that seven to eight people came on three bikes. One of the bikes stopped near the car, in which three people were sitting. The men started breaking the windows with stones. Hearing the noise, he went outside and saw one of them take out a pistol and fire.
A case has been registered and multiple teams have been formed to investigate the crime.
