New Delhi: BJP govt in Delhi will present its inaugural budget in the upcoming session beginning on Monday. Speaker Vijender Gupta said that the budget session would also see the presentation of a pending CAG report.
The session is scheduled to be held from March 24 to March 28, with the possibility of extension if circumstances necessitate. Officials said that the session would see the tabling of the CAG report on the functioning of DTC. This will be the third CAG report to be tabled in the House, with earlier ones being on health and liquor policy.
Gupta said MLAs would engage in a detailed discussion on the budget on Wednesday to analyse financial allocations and policy initiatives. The assembly will deliberate and vote on the proposed budget on Thursday. Friday has been designated for private members’ business, allowing legislators to introduce and debate resolutions and bills.
The Question Hour, an essential platform for legislative scrutiny and accountability, will be held on March 24, 26, 27 and 28. Ministers will respond to queries related to various departments as per the allotted schedule. Members wishing to raise matters of public importance under Rule-280 must submit their notices on the working day before the sitting.
BJP is likely to target AAP on the CAG reports. While the report on the now-shelved liquor policy had claimed a cumulative loss of Rs 2,002.9 crore to the state exchequer, the one on health revealed serious gaps in the capital’s healthcare system, exposing issues ranging from staff shortages to infrastructure deficiencies.
AAP, on the other hand, is set to take on the saffron party over its promise of 2,500 per month to Delhi’s women and a free LPG cylinder during Holi. In a statement, AAP said, “BJP’s deception is an outright betrayal of the women of Delhi, who were promised financial relief and support. Instead, BJP has used delay tactics to escape accountability, proving once again that its assurances mean nothing when it comes to real governance.”
Leader of Opposition in assembly, Atishi, said, “BJP has turned Delhi assembly into a dictatorship where Opposition MLAs are suspended for raising people’s issues, while BJP MLAs are protected despite their misconduct.”
