New Delhi: Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva said that with the signing of the MoU on the implementation of the Ayushman Bharat scheme in the capital, his party had fulfilled the most important promise from the 2025 assembly election manifesto within 45 days of forming a govt.
“In just 45 days, our govt completed administrative approvals for significant and large financial initiatives like providing Rs 2,500 per month under the women’s empowerment scheme and offering Rs 10 lakh of free medical coverage under the Ayushman Bharat scheme. This set a record has been under the leadership of chief minister Rekha Gupta,” Sachdeva said.
He alleged that former chief minister Arvind Kejriwal’s claims regarding world-class education, healthcare and women’s welfare were “hollow”. He added that the newly formed BJP govt in Delhi will release a roadmap for fulfilling nearly all promises made in the 2025 manifesto within one year.
AAP, however, said anyone having a refrigerator or an air-conditioner at home is excluded from the Ayushman Bharat scheme. “Has the BJP even assessed how many people in Delhi — where the per capita income is nearly 3.5 times the national average, would actually qualify for it? Instead of indulging in petty politics, BJP should have studied the AAP-led Delhi govt’s existing healthcare model and continued it — even if they wanted to rename it,” AAP said in a statement. Delhi’s people deserve continuity in welfare, not disruption for political point-scoring, it added.
Delhi Congress president Devendra Yadav said implementing the scheme was a good step, but govt should take immediate steps to improve hospitals. “Due to the failure of the AAP govt, there is a huge shortage of doctors, nurses and paramedical staff in hospitals. Most operation theatres are closed, medicines are not available for patients,” Yadav said.
He also claimed that only 25 lakh Ayushman Vandana cards were made in the country and treatment under the scheme was possible only in 32,000 hospitals, of which over 14,000 were private.
Yadav also questioned the target set by BJP govt of registering at least 1 lakh people for the scheme by April 10 while over 4 lakh people above 70 years of age lived in the capital.
