Bulk waste generators not on app warned of action | Delhi News – The Times of India

New Delhi: Due to sluggish compliance by bulk waste generators (BWGs) in registering on 311 app, Municipal Corporation of Delhi has warned of action against those not following solid waste management regulations.
BWGs are entities such as residential complexes, commercial establishments, hotels, banquet halls, hospitals and institutions that generate more than 100kg waste daily. The regulations stipulate that they must register on MCD 311 app and provide details of their waste processing methods.
“Despite repeated requests for compliance, only 1,075 generators completed the registration process to date. The civic authority identified approximately 1,900 bulk defaulting waste generators who are not adhering to norms or not registered so far. They will receive notices if they fail to meet the requirements in March,” said officials. MCD has already sent them several notices.
The civic body confirmed that the drive to identify defaulters would persist, as would the action against violators, pointing out that the garbage generation statistics are essential for planning and implementing appropriate waste processing facilities. “We need to understand the exact quantity of waste generated in the city to develop the facilities for processing waste and ensure its end-to-end disposal,” an official said earlier.
“All zonal deputy commissioners have been instructed to take action against the identified defaulting BWGs. The process shall start with the issuance of show-cause notices to non-compliant BWGs, which include commercial establishments, hotels, schools and places of worship,” MCD stated in a notice issued on Wednesday.
MCD developed an advanced software platform under 311 app for the registration and monitoring of bulk waste generators in Nov-end.
