CBI apprehends two men found in possession of 65 rare turtles | Delhi News – The Times of India

New Delhi: Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) caught two men with 65 Indian roofed turtles and Spotted pond turtles. The turtles were subsequently handed over to Delhi zoo for upkeep and care.
The two accused were identified as Mohammad Farman and Shivam Bhandari. A joint operation by CBI and Wildlife Crime Control Bureau officials led to the arrest, which was based on intelligence inputs. CBI registered a case against the two men under the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972, for possession, transportation and trade of these species, which are covered under Schedule-I of the Act.
According to a CBI official, “A total of 50 Indian roofed turtles (Pangshura tecta) and 15 Spotted pond turtles (Geoclemys hamiltonii) were found in the possession of the accused. Since the seizure involved live animals, they were handed over to the Delhi Zoo for safekeeping.” TNN
