
New Delhi: Delhi Police’s crime branch busted a Rs 15.1 lakh gambling racket in east Delhi’s Mandawali, arresting 21 people, including the kingpin.
Police received information about a clandestine gambling den operating on the second floor of a premises at Mandawali. Deputy commissioner of police (crime) Satish Kumar formed a team under inspector Praveen Swami to investigate the matter.
“The operation carried out in the intervening night of March 10-11, resulted in the immediate arrest of all individuals present,” DCP Kumar said. Among those arrested was Vinay Rai, 37, identified as the organiser of the network.
The gamblers were caught red-handed playing with cash bets, eight decks of playing cards, and detailed betting records written in three diaries.
An FIR was registered under sections 3, 4, and 5 of the Delhi Public Gambling Act. Police officers are now investigating whether the racket was linked to a larger gambling syndicate. Cops said they were also probing the kingpin’s connections. TNN
