New Delhi: A routine metro ride turned into a life-saving moment on Tuesday evening when a female CRPF officer sprang into action to revive an unconscious passenger. The incident occurred on the Blue Line of the Delhi Metro, between Kirti Nagar and Moti Nagar stations.
Sub-inspector (SI) Anjali, a 27-year-old officer from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), was travelling in a packed metro coach when she noticed a man in his 40s suddenly collapsing behind her. Suspecting a cardiac issue, she immediately performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on the unconscious passenger, reviving him within moments.
Despite the crowded metro, bystanders hesitated to step in. However, her quick thinking and training proved to be critical in saving the man’s life. Later, while speaking to media, SI Anjali expressed her disappointment in the people’s lack of initiative when it came to saving the man’s life.
Once he regained consciousness, the passenger was safely evacuated at Moti Nagar metro station for further medical assistance.
SI Anjali, who was serving with the 88th Mahila Battalion of the CRPF since 2022, is currently posted at Jantar Mantar for security duties. Praising her swift action, CRPF spokesperson DIG M Dhinakaran confirmed that she would be suitably rewarded. “The SI did a commendable job. The director general has taken note of her bravery and presence of mind,” he stated.
CPR is an emergency life-saving procedure that is performed on a person when the heart stops beating. Security forces personnel are trained to render this procedure during their training.
