New Delhi: On the first day of the CUET-UG 2025, several students in Delhi-NCR were denied entry for arriving just a few minutes late, despite their efforts to explain the delay, said parents. Each centre reportedly had 10 to 15 such cases, with students and parents pleading with officials to let the students take the test, citing traffic jams, public transport delays, and misleading Google Maps directions as reasons for delay. Parents said that despite their appeals, officials strictly enforced the entry cut-off, leading to calls fora re-exam from affected students.Sharing her experience, a candidate, Ananya, who travelled from Prayagraj for the exam, said she she was denied an entry on reaching her centre in Shakti Nagar 10 minutes late due to traffic, despite leaving an hour early. “In other national exams like JEE and NEET UG, students are given a few minutes’ grace, but no such consideration was extended for CUET. Around 10-12 other students at her centre faced similar situations, potentially wasting an entire academic year,” she said.Similarly, another candidate, Anmol, who came from Bulandshahr to a centre in Greater Noida, missed his slot after he got off at the wrong centre. By the time he reached the correct location, he was 10 minutes late and not allowed in. Many candidates reported being assigned distant centres, despite choosing nearby ones during registration. Some families travelled over 200 kilometres to reach the exam centre, only to be disappointed. One parent mentioned that outside the centres, all parents had to stand outside in the sun as there were no arrangements. “There was no place to sit or any shade. Basic facilities for us should be available at the centres,” a parent said.
