New Delhi: Delhi Development Authority is set to expand its sporting events portfolio by introducing shooting, archery and football tournaments following the model of the Lieutenant Governor’s Cup for golf.
DDA will host the events at its sports facilities across the city. Each nominated sports complex will determine the tournament duration for its respective sports activities, the authority’s recent notification said. “LG will be the chief guest for the combined prize distribution ceremony. To organise the event, the DDA has started inviting proposals from event management agencies who have expertise in organising the entire event, including gathering sponsors,” the authority said.
The tournaments will likely be for sports complex members as well as non-members and will include food, beverages and live music. The event organiser can’t charge any tournament fee from the participants; however, the DDA shall charge a tournament fee for participation.
While reviewing the status and performances of sports complexes under DDA in Nov last year, LG VK Saxena directed that an archery and shooting competition be held in the city, along the lines of the LG Golf Cup. TNN
