Delhi CM promises real work | Delhi News – The Times of India

New Delhi: Chief minister Rekha Gupta laid out her vision for the city while launching into a strong critique of the previous govt, accusing it of prioritising propaganda over effective governance.
Speaking at the Times Now Summit, Gupta gave her roadmap for Delhi, emphasising that her administration would focus on education, healthcare, infrastructure and public welfare. With the BJP returning to power in Delhi after 27 years, she promised that her govt’s efforts would be rooted in real work.
Gupta was particularly critical of AAP’s education reforms, calling these “unguided missiles”. “The infrastructure in schools is crumbling, classrooms are in short supply, and the curriculum does not align with the education policy,” she said. Gupta dismissed initiatives like the Happiness Curriculum and Deshbhakti Curriculum, arguing that they did little to improve learning outcomes. She unveiled plans to realign Delhi’s education system with the National Education Policy (NEP) and to introduce structured coaching for competitive exams such as NEET, JEE, CLAT and CA, ensuring that students from govt schools have equal opportunities to succeed.
Gupta also criticised AAP’s mohalla clinic model, calling it a “poorly planned initiative.” She accused AAP of widespread corruption, pointing to alleged scandals in the liquor policy, classroom construction and DTC buses.
She also addressed the “Sheesh Mahal” controversy. “I haven’t been allotted a house yet. Currently, I run my office on the street outside my home, meeting the public there, sitting on a chair in the lane. The reason I haven’t moved into the CM house is simple. I believe the crores spent on that property could have been better utilised. Instead of a luxurious bed for a chief minister, that money could have built homes for people still sleeping under flyovers.”
Gupta spoke about her time as chairman of the education committee. “When I took charge, I questioned why MCD schoolchildren were wearing blue uniforms for years…. I believed that children from underprivileged backgrounds deserved better—uniforms that would make them feel confident and on par with their peers in private schools,” she said. Despite significant resistance, Gupta introduced a uniform with brown checks.
“I’ve always believed in taking progressive steps to bring about meaningful change,” she said.
Gupta shared the moment she learned about her ascension to the role of chief minister: “After the election results, some names were floated for the position of chief minister. My name came up as well. I said the decision was up to the party, and I had no role in it. I was ready for whatever responsibility the party entrusted to me—whether as an MLA, minister, or CM.”
