
New Delhi: The national capital will continue to be in a state of alert for the next two to three days until the situation fully normalises, sources said. The police and intelligence establishments asked their personnel to be vigilant after the reports of ceasefire violations by Pakistan surfaced on Saturday evening.Deployments were maintained at the places visited by tourists.Patrolling increased in market areas, interstate bus terminals and railway stations to prevent any untoward incident. “We also held meetings with our members of the eyes and ears scheme, and they were asked to brief us if they notice any suspicious person,” police said.Police officers were also instructed to remain vigilant against cases of impersonation. They were directed to thoroughly verify the identity cards and credentials to ensure that nobody could gain access to any place fraudulently.The station house officers were instructed to remain present in their respective areas and carry out regular patrolling to ensure law and order. Checks were conducted at guesthouses, budget hotels, second-hand car dealerships and other potential soft targets.In the areas bordering the national capital, extensive barricading was put in place to regulate incoming traffic. Security personnel conducted detailed checks on all vehicles entering Delhi.Similarly,Delhi Fire Servicescancelled all leaves for their personnel so that the department can have its full operational strength if any emergency situation arises. According to a senior fire official, “All firefighting equipment and emergency response tools were thoroughly inspected, tested and placed in a state of complete readiness. Our teams are on high alert and prepared to respond without delay.” He added, “In the event of any untoward incident or emergency, we are fully equipped to rush to the scene and take immediate action to control the situation and protect lives and property.“
