New Delhi: Delhi Police arrested two men for allegedly demanding a Rs 6 crore ransom from a property dealer, using threats and firearms to intimidate him.
The arrests were made by the Outer North District Police after a detailed investigation into a confrontation that took place in Village Siraspur.
On March 26, a 36-year-old property dealer filed a complaint with the Samaypur Badli Police Station, stating that he purchased property in Siraspur from one Pratap Rana. After the purchase, he was approached by Dilbagh Rana, also known as Billu, who demanded Rs 3 crore for access to the property. When he refused to pay, Dilbagh and his associates confronted him on October 28, 2024, with one of the associates firing a shot during the altercation. The demand was then raised to Rs 6 crore, a senior police officer said.
Refusing to meet the demand, the property dealer continued to receive threats, including a phone call on March 26, 2025, from an international number, in which the caller warned him to vacate the property or face death, the senior police officer added.
Acting swiftly on the complaint, a police team began investigating the case.
Through the analysis of CCTV footage and technical surveillance, police identified the involvement of Pankaj Rana (32) and Praveen Rana (38), both residents of Village Siraspur, DCP (outer north) Nidhin Valsan said.
The two were arrested, and two licensed revolvers, which were used in the threats, were recovered from their possession.
The accused have been charged under sections 109, 351 of BNS and the Arms Act, and police have initiated proceedings for the cancellation of their firearm licences.
