NEW DELHI: A constable was shot by criminals during an encounter in West Delhi’s Tilak Nagar. Despite being injured, he, along with his team, was able to apprehend two people involved in the crime.
On March 21, a man was robbed of his money by four people who also brandished firearms to threaten the victim in Sultanpuri.
Police said that during the investigation, one of the accused was apprehended. “He posted a picture with a firearm on social media. He was nabbed, and during questioning, he confessed to his involvement in the robbery,” police said. Further, one more suspect was arrested.
On Friday, police received information about the movements of two suspects involved in the robbery case. They were hiding in a house in the Tilak Nagar area. After verifying the information, the team approached the location.
At 12 am, upon sensing the police presence, the wanted criminals attempted to flee. Team members, Constable Sandeep and Head Constable Vikas, pursued two of them for about 400 metres. One criminal opened fire twice at the police team.
“In self-defence, police personnel returned fire. Sandeep sustained gunshot injuries to the abdomen and left hand. He is currently stable and safe and undergoing treatment at the hospital,” deputy commissioner of police (Outer) Sachin Sharma said.
During the operation, two criminals were apprehended with two loaded country-made pistols. A bike used by the criminals to flee was also recovered.
