NEW DELHI: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Delhi Police arrested Dinesh Bansal, the prime accused in an insurance fraud case. The accused, along with four former employees of the company and three external surveyors, allegedly siphoned off around Rs 30 crores from the insurance company by submitting fake claims.
According to the complaint filed by insurance company officials, the accused individuals submitted fake invoices for car repairs that were never carried out, inducing the company to make payments under fraudulent claims.
During the investigation, the EOW found several irregularities, including multiple high-value claims being filed on the same vehicle under different insurance policy numbers and names of different policyholders.
The accused individuals also used identical photos of the same vehicle in multiple claims, and the drivers and owners of the vehicles gave different versions of the accidents.
The prime accused, Dinesh Bansal, controlled four workshops that were instrumental in raising fake claims and obtaining reimbursements fraudulently. He was arrested in the Samaypur Badli Industrial Area based on technical surveillance.
Two officials of the insurance company, Pradeep Rana and Deepak Sharma, were also arrested for facilitating the fraudsters.
Police cautioned the general public not to fall prey to middlemen and workshop employees who coax them into getting their vehicles overhauled by showing a fake accident.
The police have also advised insurance companies and surveyors to thoroughly check the veracity of accidental claims and not to fall into the bad practice of fixing a commission on reimbursement.
