Delhi Police sub-inspector faces bribery probe | Delhi News – Times of India

New Delhi: Delhi Police has registered a case and launched an investigation against a sub-inspector at North Avenue police station on bribery charges for allegedly demanding money from a man’s family to facilitate his anticipatory bail.Police reported that a quarrel broke out between two parties last year, leading to the registration of an FIR. One of the suspects later applied for anticipatory bail and the accused officer allegedly threatened his family, demanding the bribe.The incident came to light during a May 7 hearing in Delhi High Court regarding a case involving the brawl between two groups of Inderpuri residents near RML Hospital’s gate no. 5 on Oct 19-20, 2024. The suspect, who was declared a proclaimed offender, applied for anticipatory bail. During the proceedings, his counsel alleged that the investigating officer (IO), the sub-inspector, had blackmailed the suspect’s relatives and demanded a bribe to influence the bail process.The counsel presented 11 WhatsApp chat printouts between the IO and the suspect’s sister-in-law as evidence, including the details of a transaction allegedly made at the IO’s direction. The officer confirmed that the phone number in question belonged to him. The court directed that appropriate legal action be taken and a report submitted. Subsequently, the station house officer of North Avenue police station filed a formal complaint with the vigilance unit, leading to the registration of the case under Section 7 of Prevention of Corruption Act 1988 on May 13.In another case in April, Delhi Police’s vigilance unit booked two head constables, posted at Paschim Vihar police station, for allegedly threatening and demanding a bribe of Rs 1 lakh from a local meat vendor. In the same month, the vigilance unit also arrested a policeman from Dwarka district in another bribery case.
