NEW DELHI: Delhi Police arrested a man on Sunday for killing his friend’s seven-year-old daughter in Northwest Delhi‘s Swaroop Nagar.
According to police, the man was intoxicated and alone with the child at his friend’s residence, watching TV.
When the girl asked him to hand over the remote, he became irritated and slapped her, causing her to fall and bleed. Fearing she would reveal the incident, he allegedly strangled her to death.
Police received a PCR call about a murder in a lane in Swaroop Nagar on Sunday. A team from the local police station rushed to the spot and found a girl lying in a pool of blood at her house. She was taken to the hospital, where she was declared dead. The girl lived in Swaroop Nagar. There was bloodshed around her neck.
“CCTVs installed near the victim’s home were checked, and CCTV footage showed two suspects leaving the scene after the alleged time of the incident,” police said. Furthermore, the crime and FSL teams examined the scene of the crime. Police said that during the inquiry, it came to light that her father’s friend, Ranjit, used to often come to her house.
“On the day of the murder, her father and Ranjit drank together somewhere, and her father remained there while Ranjit came to the house,” police said. He was watching TV when the girl asked him to give the remote. This is when he got irritated and slapped her. He later strangled her.
“Neighbours knew that he used to come to the house regularly, so no one suspected any foul play when he was leaving the house,” police said, adding that he was nabbed during a raid. The deceased girl’s father and mother work as casual labourers, and she has a nine-year-old sister. Police said they are questioning her father.
