DUSU president accused of assaulting staff amid heated altercation at Khalsa College | Delhi News – The Times of India

New Delhi: The staff association of Delhi University’s Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Khalsa College has filed a complaint with the university’s proctor’s office, alleging that Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) president Ronak Khatri physically assaulted faculty and staff members during a confrontation over student-related issues. A copy of the complaint has also been forwarded to Delhi Police.
According to the complaint, Khatri, accompanied by individuals purportedly not affiliated with the university, entered the college administration office without authorisation. The complaint stated that the group engaged in a heated exchange with staff members, during which Khatri allegedly physically assaulted a faculty member who uses a wheelchair, and mocked him.
“Khatri’s unruly behaviour has been humiliating, and he has issued threats that have made us feel unsafe,” the staff association stated, demanding disciplinary action against him.
In response, Khatri acknowledged visiting the college to address concerns about the quality of drinking water. He claimed that a faculty member on a wheelchair threatened him, asserting political affiliations. “There was a heated exchange when officials did not heed our demands,” he said, admitting that “a little pushing and shoving took place in that moment”.
Purported videos of Khatri speaking assertively to the professor in the wheelchair, with accompanying individuals raising their voices at college officials, were widely circulated on social media. The situation escalated into a physical altercation involving some students and faculty members. The college administration reported that police were called to the scene, and Khatri was escorted off the premises.
College principal Gurmohinder Singh said while Khatri and his group raised concerns about water quality, tests conducted in their presence showed normal total dissolved solids levels. “Despite this, Khatri engaged in aggressive behaviour and issued threats, warning that if a reverse osmosis (RO) system was not installed, there would be consequences,” Singh told TOI.
The incident is the latest in a series of controversies involving Khatri. Last month, faculty members at Shri Ram College of Commerce filed a complaint against him for alleged misconduct during a confrontation over stray dogs on campus. In Jan, the dean of Faculty of Arts resigned following a protest led by Khatri over exam delays, during which the former was allegedly heckled.
Recently, Khatri made headlines for smearing cow dung on the walls of the office of Lakshmibai College’s principal to protest her decision to coat classroom walls with cow dung as a cooling measure.
Khatri has defended his actions, stating that he adopts an assertive approach when student concerns are dismissed without due consideration.
