FIITJEE officials face lookout circulars as police investigate financial irregularities | Delhi News – The Times of India

NEW DELHI: Lookout circulars against four key officials of coaching education company FIITJEE were issued as part of an ongoing investigation into financial irregularities. Police sources said the LOCs were issued as a precaution due to the large number of complainants and the uncertainty about where the money was siphoned off.
This step has been taken because gathering documents is a time-consuming process, police sources said.
The LOCs mean that the named individuals cannot leave the country.
Sources said that in a bid to uncover potential misuse of funds, investigators obtained the company’s documents from the Registrar of Companies. These documents are being scrutinised for discrepancies. Additionally, police have requested detailed transaction data from 48 bank accounts associated with the institution. “We are in the process of collecting bank account details. Once we have the information, we will assess the roles of the individuals involved. This will help us confront them with evidence,” an officer said.
Police officers confirmed that 189 complainants had alleged financial misconduct and irregularities in operations. Of these, 111 have been examined. Investigators expect the number of complaints to rise significantly as more families from various districts come forward. Sources are also actively reaching out to identify those affected who may not have yet filed formal complaints.
Recently, an Enforcement Directorate team raided a FIITJEE branch in Sector 44 in Gurgaon and seven other sites there, in Delhi and in Noida as part of the investigation into money laundering allegations against the management and its promoters. Delhi Police’s Economic Offences Wing registered a case in March for criminal breach of trust, cheating, conspiracy and common intention.
“Multiple complaints were received against the FIITJEE coaching institute at its east Delhi centre in Laxmi Nagar. A detailed inquiry revealed 192 complaints from individual students and parents’ groups,” police said in a statement. “Complainants reported significant financial losses.” The statement said the coaching institute allegedly misled students and parents through false advertisements, exaggerated success claims and deceptive marketing tactics. “Despite collecting substantial course fees, the institute failed to deliver the promised services, ultimately shutting down operations abruptly mid-Jan, 2025, without notice,” the statement read.
The institute claimed in a statement, “FIITJEE has not closed any centre as part of its own decision. Overnight desertion of the centre by the centre managing partner along with the entire team is the only reason for this force majeure type of condition. The present turmoil in the institution is temporary. Company officials are working to resume operations at all places within a reasonable time.”
The institute, in its statement, also acknowledged the police complaints filed by the parents. “So far as criminal cases lodged against FIITJEE are concerned, our legal team is taking appropriate action against the malicious prosecutions lodged against us,” it said.
