New Delhi: A major fire broke out in three clothing shops at Gandhi Nagar Market on Wednesday afternoon, prompting a swift response from emergency services and the evacuation of nearby stores.
According to fire department, they received a distress call around 2 pm about a fire in a shop located on the market’s main road. Eight fire tenders were dispatched to the scene. However, the blaze quickly spread to two adjacent shops, fuelled by large quantities of fabric stored inside.
Thick black smoke and towering flames were visible from a distance, making firefighting efforts difficult. The blaze was brought under control after nearly two hours of intense effort.
Preliminary investigations suggest a short circuit may have triggered the fire. Gandhi Nagar Police have registered a case and launched an investigation. No casualties have been reported.
