Foot overbridge linking Sarai Kale Khan Namo Bharat station and Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station ready – The Times of India

New Delhi: The construction of a foot overbridge (FOB) connecting Sarai Kale Khan Namo Bharat station to Hazrat Nizamuddin railway station is complete. Six travelators along this 280-metre-long FOB have been installed, facilitating smooth and seamless commuter movement between the two transport modes.
During the construction, the road was barricaded. As the civil work has been completed, National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC), which is executing the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS corridor, has removed the barricading, clearing the road to Hazrat Nizamuddin station. The road has also been upgraded with a new tar blacktop.
“With the completion of the FOB civil work, NCRTC has opened the road fully for public use,” said an official. The new tar blacktop will enhance durability and extend the road’s lifecycle. Given the high traffic volume and congestion in Sarai Kale Khan, it is expected to significantly ease movement and improve safety, he added.
The distance between Sarai Kale Khan Namo Bharat station and Hazrat Nizamuddin railway station is around 300 metres, and the FOB was constructed to ensure safe and convenient pedestrian connectivity.
“In the absence of proper connectivity between public transport systems, pedestrians are often compelled to cross busy roads amidst fast-moving traffic, posing serious safety risks and causing traffic disruptions and congestion. The FOB has been constructed to address these challenges and offer a long-term, safe and efficient solution,” said the official.
Sarai Kale Khan station, the largest station on the corridor, would become a major transport hub, offering seamless connectivity with Delhi Metro’s Pink Line, Hazrat Nizamuddin railway station and Veer Haqiqat Rai interstate bus terminus.
The construction of the station is progressing rapidly. “Currently, the finishing work for the facade and roof is underway. The station has provision for 12 escalators and four lifts connecting the concourse to the platform level, all of which were installed and are ready for operation,” said the official. Platform screen doors have been installed and the finishing work is in progress for the five entry-exit structures, he added.
