Found burnt currency notes near judge’s home, say NDMC workers | Delhi News – The Times of India

New Delhi: A day after Supreme Court released a report detailing allegations against Justice Yashwant Varma of Delhi High Court, burnt currency notes were allegedly found in the debris near his house. This development is connected to the fire incident at his residence on March 14, which resulted in the discovery of allegedly unaccounted cash.
NDMC sanitation workers claimed to have found charred Rs 500 notes outside Justice Varma’s bungalow while carrying out cleaning work. The workers said they found some half-burnt notes 4-5 days ago as well.
A sanitation worker, Surender, told the media that this wasn’t the first time that they had stumbled upon burnt notes. He claimed to have found charred Rs 500 notes over the past 4-5 days. Another worker, Indrajit, corroborated this, explaining that while collecting garbage, they had come across small burnt fragments of Rs 500 notes.
“We’ve been working in this area for a while, and about four to five days ago, we found some burnt pieces of Rs 500 notes. Today, we found one or two more pieces,” Indrajit said, adding that they had no idea where the fire started, as their role was limited to collecting garbage.
Varma’s bungalow, located at Tughlaq Crescent, is in a high-security zone with guards deployed there, making outsiders’ entry improbable. Varma has a Y-category equivalent security at home, something which is referred to as “1-4” in police language.
“This refers to a security set-up where one head constable-level cop and four constables are deployed at the residence. This house has a dedicated guard room where Central Reserve Police Force (Battalion 70F) was posted. The fire was in the storeroom, which is adjacent to the guard room. The storeroom used to be kept locked,” said a source.
