New Delhi: A 72-year-old man and his two sons, all from Bangladesh, were caught for living illegally in northwest Delhi’s Bawana. They were living in the city for over two decades, and the sons were working as property dealers. The accused were identified as Mustaq (72), Shahid Khan (28) and Mintu (32).
Police recently received information that a family of illegal immigrants from Bangladesh was living in Bawana. “We monitored the activities of the accused and, upon confirmation, conducted a raid in JJ Colony, Bawana,” said DCP (Crime) Aditya Gautam.
The two brothers tried to mislead the team by denying any connection with Bangladesh and producing documents to prove their nationality, which were found to be fake upon verification.
“However, on sustained interrogation, the accused finally confessed to being illegal immigrants. They said that after entering India by illegally crossing the border from Bangladesh, they procured fake documents, including birth certificates and Aadhaar cards, with the help of locals in West Bengal and Delhi,” the DCP added.
In another case, another Bangladeshi national, Mohammad Monto, was arrested in southwest Delhi’s Mahipalpur. Police said that they received information about an illegal migrant seeking accommodation in the area. A team of cops then approached the suspect and asked for identification documents. The individual failed to produce valid documents and admitted to being an illegal migrant who entered India 15 years ago. After a thorough inquiry and completion of legal formalities, he was transferred to the deportation centre at the foreigners regional registration office.
