Shah Rukh Khan’s iconic film ‘Dil Se‘, released in 1998, remains a cherished part of his film legacy. Gajraj Rao has recounted a notable incident from the shoot, where Mani Ratnam urged him to be careful during a fight scene with Shah Rukh. Nonetheless, Khan’s gentle guidance helped Gajraj feel comfortable, allowing him to perform with spontaneity.
The Incident on Set
As reported by Indian Express, Gajraj recalled a scene from ‘Dil Se’ where he played a CBI officer tasked with nabbing Shah Rukh Khan’s character. During rehearsals, Gajraj pushed Shah Rukh against the wall, prompting director Mani Ratnam to caution him, saying, “Shah Rukh is a hero, he is a star. We need to complete this film. Don’t push him like this.” However, Shah Rukh encouraged Gajraj to perform with full energy, saying, “Do the same thing.” Gajraj praised Shah Rukh’s charisma and ability to make everyone feel special both on and off the set.
Gajraj’s Perspective
Gajraj explained why he pushed Shah Rukh hard during a scuffle scene. He said, “We were very raw. We came from a theatre in Delhi and didn’t know diplomacy. I got excited, but Shah Rukh’s energy is 10,000 more than any actor on the set”.
Shah Rukh’s Reaction
Rao recalled Khan’s reaction during the filming of ‘Dil Se’. Shah Rukh encouraged him to continue performing the scene with the same intensity. Gajraj followed this advice and delivered the scene with full energy. He praised Shah Rukh’s magnetic personality, noting that he makes everyone feel special, whether on set or in casual settings. During filming, Shah Rukh becomes fully immersed in his roles, sometimes even physically engaging with his co-stars when the scene demands it.
