New Delhi: A large number of fifth-semester students at Delhi University’s Campus Law Centre have failed in the taxation law paper allegedly due to a technical glitch in the result processing system. The students, whose results were declared after an unusual delay of about four months on May 13, claim that they have been marked failed in consecutive sequence of their roll numbers and name initials, suggesting an error in the tabulation or evaluation process. With the final examinations scheduled to begin on May 27, students have expressed concerns that the delay in rectifying the error could impact their final clearance or result in a backlog, potentially delaying the completion of their degree on time.A student, who wished to remain anonymous, said, “We waited for four months, and when the results came, we were shocked. I failed just one subject – taxation law – while clearing all other subjects with decent scores. The strange part is that nearly 50 of my batchmates, with roll numbers close to mine, also failed in the same subject.”Another student stated, “My name starts with ‘K’ and my roll number is among the early ones. I know for a fact that I attempted the paper well and performed better than in some of my other papers in which I passed. This must be a technical glitch.”Several affected students have formally written to the Faculty of Law administration, requesting an urgent review of the results. In a letter addressed to dean Anju Vali Tikoo, students highlighted the “unusual pattern” of mass failures among those with similar roll numbers and names starting with specific letters. “We request that a fair review be conducted to save students from academic delays, postgraduate admission issues and significant emotional stress,” they stated. The dean, however, stated that she was not aware of the matter and declined to comment. The TOI reached out to the controller of examination, Prof GS Tuteja, who stated that necessary steps would be taken once the matter was brought to the attention of the faculty. This is not the first time Delhi University has faced issues with result discrepancies. In 2022, students of the School of Open Learning reported similar problems, with many being marked absent or failed due to data mismatches. Additionally, in 2021, law students had raised complaints about incorrect marks being uploaded for internal assessments.
