Hope and dreams of kin crash down with this accident – The Times of India

New Delhi: Nikhil Singh, a chef, and his fiancée, Priyanka Rawat, were at an amusement park in Kapashera on Thursday, hoping to spend a fun-filled day. But their dreams literally came crashing down when Priyanka fell from the Top Spin and lost her life.
“For five hours, we enjoyed the rides there. When we got on the swing, there was the natural rush of adrenaline. But little did I know that our excitement would be short-lived,” said Singh. When the cabin started moving, he closed his eyes. It was then that he heard a scream. When he opened his eyes, he realised that Priyanka was no longer sitting beside him. He looked below and saw Priyanka prone on the ground, a pool of blood forming around her body.
“It happened within 15 seconds,” Singh said in a shaky voice. “Before the ride started, I spoke to the operator, who assured me that everything was fine. Others asked him the same question, but the operator told us that he had 18 years of experience.”
Seeing Priyanka’s body, Singh felt helpless, unable to move or react. “All I could do was scream her name. The sight of her lying motionless on the ground will remain etched in my memory forever,” he grieved. The selfie they took just before the ride showed just how happy they were that day.
The two met in the winter of 2022 and got engaged a year later. “We met through social media and started talking. We also started meeting each other,” Singh said. He fondly remembered how they often met at INA Market in 2022, when she worked in Gurgaon.
After their engagement in 2023, Singh left for his job as a chef in Cyprus. “I arrived in India on March 8 and spent time with her. I was supposed to return on Saturday, but I cancelled my ticket,” he said.
Priyanka, a relationship manager with an insurance company, lived with her parents in a servant’s quarter in Chanakyapuri. She had an elder married sister and a 20-year-old brother, Mohit. Parents Jyoti and Anita Rawat both work as cooks, including one for an IPS officer.
Jyoti Rawat said Priyanka was set to get married next Feb, for which she started preparing. She had purchased jewellery and planned to buy a house for her parents. The main breadwinner of the family, Priyanka earned Rs 22,000 a month. Her family’s financial condition had spurred Priyanka to start working after completing Class XI. Her father mentioned that the family took a loan for the elder daughter’s marriage and Priyanka was helping repay the debt.
Mohit said his sister and Singh had left home for the amusement park around noon on Thursday. “At 5.30pm, she made a video call to us, saying they were having fun and would return for dinner. A little later, around 6.30pm, we received a call from her fiance about the accident,” said a glum Mohit.
Her mother was devastated. “I want justice for my daughter,” she wept. “I don’t want what happened to my daughter to happen to anyone else.”
Consoling his wife, Rawat expressed his own grief, recalling that whenever he faced difficulties, Priyanka was always there to support the family through thick and thin.
