
New Delhi: A woman fell from an e-rickshaw during a phone snatching incident in Shahdara, an event captured in a video shared on social media. Police registered a case after receiving a message with a link to the video posted on X. In the footage, a motorcyclist is seen snatching a phone from a woman in an e-rickshaw, followed by a young girl falling onto the road.Taking swift action, police filed a case under Section 304(2) (snatching) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).In a separate incident, an 8-year-old girl died and three others, including her mother, were injured after an e-rickshaw overturned. The victim’s mother, a resident of Loni in Ghaziabad, told police her daughter, a third-grade student in Mandoli, regularly commuted with her and her siblings.On the day of the accident, she picked up her children from school and boarded an e-rickshaw outside a bank. Despite her repeated requests to slow down, the driver continued to drive recklessly. As they reached Sewadham Road, he suddenly swerved, causing the e-rickshaw to overturn.Everyone fell onto the road, and the girl’s neck got trapped under the vehicle. She sustained critical injuries, with blood coming from her nose, mouth, and head. The mother alleged that the driver ignored multiple warnings to slow down. Local bystanders apprehended the driver and handed him over to police.She immediately rushed her daughter to GTB Hospital in another e-rickshaw, where doctors declared her dead. The mother also claimed the e-rickshaw was being driven by a 16-year-old, raising serious questions about underage and untrained drivers operating such vehicles.
