New Delhi: The Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) president, Ronak Khatri on Monday raised concerns over alleged irregularities in the university’s PhD admission process, accusing the administration of granting admissions based on ideological affiliations rather than academic merit.
The allegations were refuted by Delhi University administration. In a press conference, Khatri claimed the university has admitted students without giving adequate weight to their National Eligibility Test (NET) scores. He alleged that admissions were primarily based on personal interviews, contrary to UGC guidelines that prescribe 70% weightage for the NET score and 30% for the interview.
“The university is granting PhD admissions based on personal interviews, instead of adhering to the prescribed weightage for the NET score, as per UGC guidelines,” Khatri stated. “This is a clear violation of the UGC norms, and it appears that admissions are being influenced by ideological affiliations and financial considerations,” he added.
He demanded that the university release the marks obtained by the candidates to verify whether the admissions were in line with UGC norms. Khatri has also called on the Union Ministry of Education to investigate the matter.
“We have not received any representation from the students’ union on this issue. Admissions are conducted in full compliance with UGC norms,” Haneet Gandhi, dean admissions, told TOI. TNN
