New Delhi: A Jeddah-Delhi flight made an emergency landing at Indira Gandhi International Airport on Monday evening after a suspected flat tyre. However, the flight with 404 passengers landed safely, said officials.
The flight departed from Jeddah on Monday around 10.30am (Jeddah’s local time) for Delhi. “When the flight was mid-air, the pilot contacted the air traffic control and requested an emergency landing at Delhi airport as a flat tyre was suspected. A full emergency was declared at 4.57pm (Indian time),” said an airport official. “The flight landed safely around 5.30pm, and all passengers are fine. Airport ground and emergency staff were present during the landing as a precautionary measure,” said the official.
According to the fire department, they received a call around 5.15pm, and three fire tenders were sent to the spot.
In Oct last year, a Bengaluru-bound flight carrying 184 passengers was forced to declare an emergency and return to Delhi after reportedly receiving a bomb threat. Police later declared the bomb threat a hoax. Last May, a Delhi-Bengaluru flight was forced to return mid-air and made an emergency landing at IGI Airport after a fire warning from its auxiliary power unit.
