New Delhi: Several members of the JNU Students’ Union locked the Dean of Students Welfare (DoS) office on Monday to protest against the delay in holding the union elections.
Three JNUSU office bearers, vice-president Avijit Ghosh, general secretary Priyanshi Arya and joint secretary Mohd Sajid, locked the entrance to the DoS office, hampering its functioning to pressure the university to announce the election dates. They belong to the the SFI-BAPSA-AISF faction of JNUSU.
JNUSU president Dhananjay, a member of AISA, has been staging a sit-in inside the DoS office for the past four days as part of a protest to occupy it.
In response to the protest, the JNU administration filed a petition in Delhi High Court on Monday, seeking immediate vacating of the DoS office. It maintained that the election notification had been pending as the matter was currently sub judice.
“The JNU administration has moved the high court to vacate the occupation of the DoS office. Legal proceedings have been initiated against me and other activists,” Dhananjay said in a statement.
