New Delhi: Two teenagers lost their lives, and two others were critically injured after the scooter they were riding met with an accident early Wednesday morning at Pandav Nagar in east Delhi. According to police, all four youths were travelling together on a single scooter, when the vehicle is believed to have crashed into a road divider.
The deceased were identified as Abhay (19) and Ayush (18), both residents of Trilokpuri, east Delhi. The two other riders, both aged 17, sustained severe injuries and are currently undergoing treatment at a nearby hospital.
Police received a call at approximately 5.15 am about the accident. A team from the local police station immediately rushed to the scene. Upon arrival, they discovered a heavily-damaged scooter and four injured youths. All victims were rushed to the hospital, where Abhay and Ayush were declared dead on arrival by doctors.
Preliminary probe suggests that all four boys were riding on a single scooter, and possibly without helmets as none were found at the scene.
Police said they are scanning the CCTV footage to piece together the sequence of events. “We suspect that the vehicle may have hit a divider, but we are not ruling out other possibilities at this stage,” a police officer said. Investigators are also questioning the families of the teenagers to learn more about their whereabouts before the accident.
A case has been registered under sections 125 (act endangering life or personal safety of others) and 281 (rash driving or riding on a public way) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Police further stated that a crime scene team was called to conduct a thorough inspection. Photographs were taken, and the vehicle was seized. Further investigation is underway.
