Land hurdle cleared for Sarai Kale Khan bus terminal revamp | Delhi News – Times of India

New Delhi: A major hurdle in the redevelopment of the inter-state bus terminal at Sarai Kale Khan and its integration with the Rapid Rail network was removed on Monday with lieutenant governor VK Saxena granting a no-objection certificate to the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) for the allotment of a land parcel.According to officials, the NOC pertained to a land parcel measuring 2.5 acres (10,430 square metres) owned by the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB). The land was required not only for the redevelopment of the ISBT but also to create associated passenger infrastructure and amenities. During the redevelopment, permanent night shelters will also be built for the homeless. The LG office, in a statement, said that once redeveloped and integrated, Sarai Kale Khan would emerge as one of Delhi’s largest multi-modal transit hubs and the ISBT, Delhi Metro, Indian Railway, and the RRTS Network will be converging, providing lakhs of commuters, including inter-state passengers, with seamless connectivity and enhanced amenities.Officials said the request for this land was made by the Delhi Transport Infrastructure Development Corporation in Feb 2024. Currently, under the possession of DUSIB, the said parcel of land is free from encroachments. DUSIB also confirmed to the LG that there were no pending court cases or litigation concerning this land.“DUSIB submitted that three night shelters exist on the said land parcel, which, as per a Supreme Court order dated May 9, 2023, cannot be removed without its approval. It has been agreed upon that DUSIB would approach the Supreme Court seeking its permission to shift the night shelters and the inmates to a nearby location,” said an official. “DTIDC has also confirmed that the proposed ISBT redevelopment works would include creating permanent structures for the night shelters,” the official added.
