
New Delhi: A 34-year-old man was arrested along with his accomplice in connection with an Rs 8 lakh burglary in Dwarka, which he allegedly committed to buy anniversary gifts for his wife, police said on Wednesday.
The accused were identified as Manoj Kumar (34) and Ashok Kumar (39).
According to police, the burglary took place on March 21 night when the duo broke into a shop in Kakrola and fled with cash amounting to Rs 8 lakh. “After analysing more than 100 CCTV cameras and tracking the suspects’ movements, police traced them to Gurgaon and Bahadurgarh, leading to their arrest on March 28 and March 30, respectively,” DCP (dwarka) Ankit Singh said.
“Manoj Kumar confessed that he was struggling financially and wanted to gift his wife a mobile phone for their wedding anniversary. Ashok Kumar had a similar motive, citing financial hardships as the reason for his involvement in the crime. Upon their arrest, police recovered a car used in the crime, house-breaking tools, and four mobile phones, including two that were bought with stolen money,” DCP Singh added.
Both accused have a history of criminal activities and were previously involved in at least two dozen cases of burglary, theft, snatching, and robbery. Their arrests led to the resolution of 12 pending cases across various police stations in Delhi, cops said, adding, further investigation is on.
