Mercury increases to 34.4Celsius, light rain likely on weekend | Delhi News – The Times of India

New Delhi: The city recorded another hot day on Thursday, with the maximum temperature settling at 34.4 degrees Celsius, six degrees above normal, at base station Safdarjung. Some areas saw a drizzle, and very light rain or drizzle is likely from Friday to Sunday.
At 34.8 degrees Celsius, Pitampura was the hottest station, followed by Ridge in north Delhi at 34.7 degrees Celsius. The Ayanagar observatory recorded trace rainfall between 2.30pm and 5.30pm.
“A western disturbance started impacting the region from Thursday, which is likely to cause very light rain activity in the city. The day temperature is expected to start to dip from Friday,” said a Met official.
The minimum temperature on Thursday was 18.6 degrees Celsius, four degrees above normal, at Safdarjung, against 17.2 degrees a day earlier.
India Meteorological Department predicted that the maximum temperature might drop to 30-32 degrees Celsius on Friday and further to 29-31 degrees by March 17. However, as the impact of the western disturbance will get over, the mercury is expected to start rising again from March 18 and may reach around 33-35 degrees Celsius by March 19.
Delhi’s air quality, meanwhile, improved from poor — 228 — on Wednesday to moderate on Thursday, with an AQI of 179.
According to Air Quality Early Warning System for Delhi, the air quality is likely to stay moderate till March 16. It may stay moderate for the subsequent six days,” it predicted. TNN
