Minor fire in general ward of E Delhi hospital, no casualties | Delhi News – The Times of India

New Delhi: A fire broke out at the hospital in East Delhi’s Laxmi Nagar on Sunday night. No casualties were reported in the incident. According to eyewitnesses, people, including patients and staff, were present in the building when the fire started, but they all managed to escape safely.
The fire service received a call at 11.42 pm on Sunday, and four fire engines were rushed to the spot. The firefighters brought the blaze under control within half an hour. Preliminary investigations suggest that a short circuit in an air conditioner on the ground floor may have caused the fire.
The hospital has a basement and two upper floors. The fire started in the general ward on the ground floor. By the time the firefighters arrived, everyone already evacuated the building.
Police are investigating the cause of the fire, and a crime team and forensic experts have collected evidence from the site. According to the police, timely intervention by the fire department prevented a major disaster.
Last year, chaos erupted in Lajpat Nagar as a massive fire broke out at a children’s eye hospital. Nearly 50 people, including staff and residents nearby, narrowly escaped in May. Similarly, seven new born babies died last year after a fire broke out at a neonatal care unit in East Delhi’s Vivek Vihar.
In another case, reportedon Feb, a massive fire erupted at Nayak Hospital in central Delhi, necessitating the evacuation of more than 50 individuals, including patients and staff, from the seven-story emergency block building.
Delhi saw a 37% increase in fire incidents in 2024 compared with the previous year, indicating a serious failure to learn from past experiences.
