Minor fire on escalator at IGI Airport quickly contained | Delhi News – The Times of India

New Delhi: A minor fire broke out on an escalator at Terminal 3 of Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport on Thursday evening. Officials confirmed that smoke was visible briefly, but the situation was swiftly controlled with no injuries or property damage.
The incident occurred around 5.30 pm on Thursday. Usha Rangnani, DCP (IGI), said, “A minor fire occurred in the rubber component of an escalator in the Domestic Airport area, near the food court. The fire was quickly doused.”
An airport official said a component malfunction likely caused the minor fire, which was promptly extinguished. “Only smoke was observed coming from the escalator. No passenger faced any problems. The area has been barricaded,” the official said.
