NDMC’s advisory on backup power supply in case of a blackout | Delhi News – Times of India

New Delhi: New Delhi Municipal Council(NDMC) on Thursday issued an advisory specifying measures to be taken in case a power blackout is declared. Residents have been advised not to use any alternate or backup supply for the safety of all if any emergency arises.“They are asked to separate the power backup system, including inverters, from the regular supply so that these will not start automatically as soon as the blackout is enforced. The step is important to ensure the safety of the capital city in a time of crisis. There is, anyway, an option to start the generators and inverters manually,” said an official.NDMC’s power department will start sending messages to consumers from Friday about the advisory issued by the chief engineer (electrical). “The step was taken after it was found that after a complete power shutdown on Wednesday in the NDMC area as part of a drill, the power backup systems of hotels, restaurants and even commercial towers automatically started functioning, which marred the whole purpose of shutting down the power stations and announcing the blackout,” said the official.
