New Delhi: New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has started work on its overdue project to develop its schools into model institutes by enhancing their facilities. A comprehensive improvement plan is being prepared for Navyug School, Pandara Road, which was visited by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Oct 2 last year.
The plan encompasses the construction of a fully airconditioned multipurpose hall accommodating 100-150 seats, a conference room and additional classrooms on each floor. “The project also includes new staircases, improved toilet and drinking water facilities, and renovation of the entrance and lawn areas. Following this, similar upgrades are planned for the Sarojini Nagar school,” said NDMC vice-chairman Kuljeet Chahal.
The building will also feature a newly designed corridor with a modern look, enhancing both functionality and aesthetics. “The multipurpose hall will be equipped with an audio-visual facility and a public announcement system so that interactions and events can be smoothly organised here,” said Chahal, adding that two more classrooms on each floor will support the growing educational needs.
“We will add a toilet complex on the ground floor. The playground will also be upgraded to provide a safe and engaging space for playing activities,” said Chahal.
While these works will be carried out by the civil department, the horticulture department will undertake the plantation and beautification work on the campus, promoting a greener and more welcoming environment. The building’s facade will be improved to give it a fresh, contemporary appearance that complements the overall infrastructure development, said Chahal.
Many dignitaries who are alumni of this school also contributed ideas and helped in fundraising for the project, he added. “The works are finalised based on the requirement, availability of area, staff suggestions, and after discussing features that should be present in a model school.”
An NDMC official said the design for the overall upgradation of the school was proposed, and the civil, electrical, IT and education departments were coordinating to implement the project. “As of now, the process for finalising the estimates is in progress,” said the official. The project is likely to cost around Rs 10 crore, according to sources.
