In ‘Anora’, a young Brooklyn woman’s life takes a dramatic turn when she marries the son of a Russian oligarch, offering her a chance at a fairytale life. But when the news spreads to Russia, her newfound happiness is threatened as his parents arrive in New York determined to annul the marriage.
Mikey Madison plays the role of Ani (or Anora), while Mark Eydelshteyn portrays Ivan and Yura Borisov plays Igor in the film Anora. Written and directed by Sean Baker, known for The Florida Project and Red Rocket, the movie is rated R and blends drama, comedy, and romance.
During the Oscars, ‘Anora’ director Sean Baker delivered a heartfelt speech after winning Best Picture, emphasizing the importance of independent filmmaking. He thanked the Academy for recognizing a film made on “blood, sweat, and tears” by indie artists and encouraged filmmakers to keep telling meaningful stories. Co-producers Alex Coco and Samantha Quan quoted similar sentiments, highlighting the film’s modest budget and the dedication of its small crew. Coco called ‘Anora’ proof that independent films can thrive, while Quan urged aspiring filmmakers to follow their passion.
