New Delhi: Delhi govt has initiated plans to implement the Health Management Information System (HMIS) and associated digital health infrastructure across all its hospitals to streamline various processes, ranging from patient registration and admission to billing.
Officials said the comprehensive HMIS system, planned for all Delhi govt hospitals, will encompass various functions, including patient registration, appointments, billing, laboratory and radiology diagnostics, operation theatre, and ward management, among others.
Health minister Pankaj Kumar Singh held a review meeting on Thursday with senior representatives from the National Informatics Centre (NIC), the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (CDAC), and the Department of Health to discuss the implementation of HMIS and digital health infrastructure.
The implementation of HMIS will introduce several digital advancements to improve healthcare services and patient experience. The system will provide digital prescriptions and discharge summaries through mobile applications and WhatsApp, alongside laboratory reports and instant notifications via SMS. It will facilitate consent-based digital sharing of health information using ABHA (Ayushman Bharat Health Account) IDs, maintaining data confidentiality and compatibility.
The system will incorporate voice-to-text functionality for efficient prescription writing while providing analytical tools to evaluate doctor performance, medicine consumption, and diagnostic patterns.
“We are working towards a single digital health platform where real-time data from all hospitals—from primary health centres to super speciality hospitals—can be viewed through one unified dashboard,” the minister said.
The minister also inspected Janakpuri Super Speciality Hospital to assess its services, facilities, and arrangements. “It is our priority that better treatment and facilities are available to the patients,” said Singh.
