
New Delhi: A 24-year-old man was murdered in east Delhi in a road rage incident on Holi after two men allegedly attacked him with a broken bottle. The duo has been arrested.
The deceased was identified as Ashish, a tea seller in Noida Sector 9. Police got a PCR call at Kalyan Puri police station regarding an assault near NH-24 on Friday. “The caller, Vikas, reported that two men on a bike attacked his friend, Ashish, hitting him with a bottle and slashing his throat before fleeing towards Raj Nagar, Ghaziabad. A police team reached the hospital where he was declared dead,” a senior police officer said.
Vikas, who had witnessed the incident, told police officers that he and his friends, including Ashish, were returning home to Khoda after celebrating Holi when their bike was hit by another bike coming from Mandawali. An argument started, during which one of the two men took out a liquor bottle, smashed it, and used a broken shard to fatally wound Ashish on his head,” DCP (east) Abhishek Dhania said.
The suspects fled, leaving Ashish critically injured. A case was registered. “The police team analysed CCTV footage, automatic number plate recognition cameras, and call detail records to trace the accused and within a few hours, the two prime accused were arrested,” DCP Dhania added.
The duo was identified as Pankaj Kumar Sinha (30) and Jeetu (27). Pankaj, a resident of Indirapuram, works as a salesman in a coffee company and has a prior criminal record. Jeetu, a resident of Mandawali, drives e-rickshaws and was previously involved in criminal activities. Police have found the motorcycle used in the crime.
