NEW DELHI: Security measures have been enhanced near Delhi’s Patiala House Court ahead of Thursday’s anticipated appearance of Tahawwur Rana, who faces charges in the Mumbai terror attack case following his US extradition.
Officials have positioned paramilitary forces and Delhi Police personnel outside the premises, implementing stringent visitor screening protocols to ensure safety.
The matter is scheduled to be heard by an NIA judge. The authorities at Tihar Jail have confirmed their readiness with a high-security ward for Rana’s detention, awaiting judicial directives.
Rana’s transfer from the United States to Delhi is underway. Upon arrival in India, he is expected to be housed in Tihar jail.
The 64-year-old Canadian citizen, born in Pakistan, is known to have close ties with David Coleman Headley (also known as Daood Gilani), a US national who was a primary plotter in the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks.
His extradition to India proceeds after the US Supreme Court dismissed his final appeal to prevent the transfer.
