South Delhi police solve high-profile theft case with arrest and recovery of stolen jewellery – The Times of India

New Delhi: In a major breakthrough, the South Delhi Police solved a high-profile theft case, arresting a domestic servant and recovering stolen jewellery worth Rs 80 lakhs. The accused, Nirmal Malik, was employed at the victim’s residence in Defence Colony, where the theft occurred on Dec 26, 2024.
According to the police, Malik worked at the residence since Dec 14, 2024. He allegedly committed the theft after learning that his employer and her family would be away from home from Dec 23 to 28, 2024. Malik broke into the house and stole gold jewellery and cash worth Rs 6 lakhs.
The police launched an investigation after receiving a complaint from the victim. They collected vital inputs through technical surveillance and manual sources, which led them to Malik’s associate, Dharmendra Dass. Dass was arrested on March 12, 2025, in Odisha.
Further investigations revealed that Malik had fled to Bangalore and was working there as a cook. A police team was dispatched to Bangalore, and Malik was arrested. He confessed to the crime during interrogation.
In addition to Malik, three others were detained by the police, including his wife, a goldsmith named Prabhakar Sahu (who received the stolen jewellery), and Ratiranjan Malik (who facilitated the sale of the stolen jewellery)
Malik disclosed that on the day of the incident, he called his associate Dass to the house, where they broke open the locker and stole jewellery and cash.
The police recovered a significant amount of stolen jewellery along with Rs 6 lakhs in cash. The police brass commended the team involved in the investigation, and suitable rewards will be given to the staff for their good work.
