Speaker seeks digitisation of assembly library, archives – The Times of India

New Delhi: Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla directed the immediate initiation of a plan to convert the Delhi Vidhan Sabha library into a fully digital facility, Delhi Assembly speaker Vijender Gupta said on Wednesday.
Gupta said the Lok Sabha Speaker also directed the officials of his secretariat to ensure that the archival records and proceedings from the inception of Delhi Assembly, preserved at the historic Town Hall of Municipal Corporation of Delhi, be included in the digitisation project.
Gupta met Birla at the Parliament secretariat on Wednesday and discussed transforming the historic Vidhan Sabha building into a national heritage site. He talked about reinforcing the efforts being made for the preservation and modernisation of Delhi Assembly. The meeting also focused on e-library and archival digitisation, strengthening the institutional framework and infrastructure of the assembly.
The Delhi Assembly secretariat, in a statement, said Gupta apprised Birla about the ongoing initiatives at Vidhan Sabha, particularly the efforts to elevate the historic complex to the stature of a national heritage. “Birla directed the immediate initiation of a plan to convert the Delhi Vidhan Sabha library into a fully digital facility. This transition will significantly enhance public access to legislative documents and ensure the long-term preservation of institutional knowledge,” the statement read.
In a show of strong support, Birla instructed the Lok Sabha secretariat to extend all possible assistance to Delhi Assembly in its endeavours, the statement added. TNN
