‘Staged crash, faked death’: How father-son duo and lawyer plotted Rs 1 crore insurance fraud | Delhi News – The Times of India

A man, his father, and an advocate conspired to stage the man’s death for insurance money. They faked a bike accident and cremation.

NEW DELHI: What appeared to be a routine accident turned out to be a conspiracy hatched by a man, his father and an advocate to siphon off insurance money by staging the man’s death. It started on March 5, when the Najafgarh police station received a control room alert about an accident nearby with a caller, a man named Satish, claiming that his 27-year-old son Gagan had been hit by a motorcycle.
The group’s elaborate scheme involved faking a bike accident, manipulating medical records, conducting a fake cremation and convincing kin to play along. With the advocate’s expertise and guidance, they carefully crafted a web of lies to deceive the authorities and insurance companies, aiming to claim a hefty sum of Rs 1 crore in insurance payout.

Ankit Singh, DCP (Dwarka), disclosed on Saturday, “The complainant claimed that Gagan was rushed to the hospital, given first aid and later discharged. However, when the investigating officer (IO) asked Gagan to provide a written complaint and undergo a medical examination, he left the police station, saying he would return later. He never did.”
However, the elaborate attempt to commit insurance fraud was thwarted by police. Six days after the purported motorbike accident, on March 11, the IO contacted the father again, who dropped a bombshell: Gagan had expired on March 6 and the family had cremated the body without conducting a post-mortem examination. “The complainant asked for a case to be registered regarding the accident and also filed a complaint against the IO,” a senior police officer revealed.
As the investigation unfolded, police, however, discovered that the accident was staged and Gagan was actually alive. According to the cops, CCTV footage revealed that Gagan had fake the accident in collaboration with the biker who allegedly crashed into him.
Based on this video ‘prooof’, the biker was called in for interrogation. “Identified as Manish, the biker revealed that the mastermind behind the deception was a lawyer named Manmohan, alias Pardeep. He thought up this idea so that Gagan and Satish could skip their loan liabilities and also claim the insurance money of Rs 1 crore,” said DCP Singh. “The father-son duo and the advocate had promised the biker a sum of Rs 15 lakh to fake the accident and help them claim the insurance money.”
The advocate also divulged to the cops that Gagan was alive and in hiding in Punjab.
According to police, Satish insisted he cremated his son in Uttar Pradesh’s Hapur, though his own family denied this. The twist was when police teams interrogated cremation ground employees and found no records of the said cremation. Instead, they discovered that Gagan himself had walked in with some donation and left casually after that with a receipt in hand.
A case of forgery has been registered and further investigations are under way. Satish, Gagan and other suspects have joined the interrogation.
