Told not to honk, Thar driver drives over security guard in Delhi | Delhi News – The Times of India

NEW DELHI: Delhi Police on Sunday arrested a 24-year-old man in connection with a hit-and-run and attempt-to-murder case. The accused, Vijay alias Lale, is a resident of the Rangpuri area of Delhi. Along with the arrest, the police also seized a Mahindra Thar, the offending vehicle in the case.
On May 4, information regarding an attempt to murder was received at the Vasant Kunj South police station.
The complainant, Rajiv Kumar, reported that he was intentionally hit by a Mahindra Thar driver at the Red Light, Mahipalpur Flyover, Mahipalpur, Delhi.
Rajiv Kumar, who is employed as a security guard at Firewall Securities Ltd., sustained multiple crushed and fractured injuries to his legs and ankle.
A case under u/s 281/109(1) BNS was registered at Vasant Kunj South police station, and an investigation was carried out.
Police teams worked diligently, reviewing extensive CCTV footage from the vicinity of the crime scene to identify the vehicle and driver involved.
Within a span of just six hours following the incident, the investigating officers meticulously reviewed extensive CCTV footage from the vicinity of the crime scene and successfully identified the offending vehicle as a black Mahindra Thar.
Leveraging this visual evidence, the police were able to accurately trace the registered owner of the vehicle. In accordance with legal procedures, a formal notice was then issued to the owner under Section 133 of the Motor Vehicles Act, initiating the process of accountability and further investigation.
During the follow-up investigation, Vijay alias Lale, aged 24 and residing near Tata Telco, Rangpuri, Delhi, was arrested and the Mahindra Thar was seized by the police.
According to the security guard, the altercation began after he asked the driver not to honk, after which he was allegedly run over by a truck. He suffered multiple injuries and the incident was captured on CCTV.
