
New Delhi: A 32-year-old travel agent who allegedly duped a man of over Rs 18 lakh under the pretext of booking international flight tickets has been arrested by the Delhi Police Crime Branch from Himachal Pradesh, nearly two years after the case was registered.According to police, information was received that the accused, wanted in a 2023 cheating case registered by the Crime Branch, was hiding in Kasol, Himachal Pradesh. A police team was dispatched and arrested him near a hostel on May 18.The case dates back to Feb 2023, when the complainant alleged that he had booked refundable flight tickets to Canada worth over Rs 18 lakh through the accused. The accused had falsely claimed to be affiliated with a reputed travel platform. However, when the tickets were cancelled due to visa delays, only Rs 75,000 was refunded. Multiple attempts by the victim to recover the remaining amount failed, leading to the registration of an FIR.“Despite being granted conditional bail, the accused repeatedly failed to appear in court and was declared a proclaimed absconder by the Dwarka court in Jan this year,” said DCP (Crime) Harsh Indora.Police said the accused had been frequently changing locations—shuttling between Goa, Nashik, Dehradun, Varanasi, and Kasol—to evade arrest. He had also set up a fake travel agency and used bogus email accounts to conduct fraudulent bookings. TNN
