Verma to head committee for overseeing infra projects | Delhi News – The Times of India

New Delhi: A high-level coordination committee, chaired by minister Parvesh Verma, has been formed on the PMO’s instructions to streamline infrastructure projects in Delhi. The panel includes top officials from agencies like DDA, PWD, MCD and NHAI, among others.
The committee’s primary role is to eliminate overlapping authorities in road and flyover construction while also overseeing the implementation of Master Plan. The move aims to enhance efficiency and prevent delays in key infrastructure projects. The initiative is also expected to bring greater accountability and coordination among agencies involved in Delhi’s urban development.
The establishment of the panel coincides with a significant push for the city’s road infrastructure, encompassing the construction of flyovers and underpasses, as well as significant repair works. According to officials, the committee was formed as the involvement of multiple authorities frequently resulted in delays, operational inefficiencies and administrative confusion, hampering the timely delivery of critical projects.
Verma said the panel’s focus will be cooperation between various agencies in ensuring that road construction and maintenance work progresses smoothly. “Also, the mandate is to ensure the Master Plan is implemented and Delhi becomes a world-class city as per the vision of PM Modi,” he added.
Slamming the previous AAP govt, Verma said it “failed to advance infrastructure growth and deprived Delhi of its rightful position as a world-class city”.
“BJP govt’s goal is to create a unified approach to improve coordination and ensure that development and repair work is completed on time. The committee will serve as a platform to resolve all coordination-related issues,” he said.
Delhi’s road network has seen a substantial transformation in recent times. Several flyovers and underpasses are under construction to reduce traffic bottlenecks, especially in east and south Delhi. Moreover, some stretches, such as the ones near Dhaula Kuan and parts of Outer Ring Road, are being upgraded with improved surfacing and better traffic management systems.
