Welfare board for city’s gig workers | Delhi News – Times of India

New Delhi: Labour minister Kapil Mishra met gig workers on Friday to discuss their social, medical and economic security issues. Representatives of several leading platform companies and aggregators were also present at the meeting, which was termed a significant step towards safeguarding the welfare and rights of casual workers in the rapidly growing gig economy.The gig workers highlighted serious challenges such as long working hours, inadequate pay and the lack of an effective grievance redressal system, which have been impacting their livelihoods for a long time, govt stated. Mishra announced that the problems would be resolved with the cooperation of the platforms and aggregators. Govt will establish a welfare board for gig and platform workers, and design schemes for their welfare. The minister also assured the platforms and aggregators that they won’t be harassed by inspectors . He added Delhi govt had allocated Rs 10 crore to support these initiatives. Several platform companies and aggregators shared their efforts to support their workers.tnn
